Tour operator vs. Retail bookings
Most management companies in the Orlando area offer bookings generated by tour operators. These are effectively large travel agencies who “block book” large numbers of properties at the start of each season. The benefit to the management company is they don’t have to spend marketing money. The benefit to the owner is high occupancy (typically the same as VillaDirect’s, at about 30-34 weeks per year).
While the occupancy is a benefit, the biggest plus that most owners see is the fact that their calendars are full early in the season. The downside is that these bookings are lower value and they can be cancelled without much notice by the tour operator.
